Our studio uses Adobe Media Encoder with excellent results. (We’re on Macs so the specialized [Windows] transcoding apps are not available to us.)

[Remington Markham] “I was looking in to AVCHD conversion programs.”
Depends on what you want to convert for? effects, color grading/correction, or do you want to just do cutting and assembly for uses like iPlops, or web?

I’ve just bought the Main Concept HD plugin for my premiere CS3(just the mpeg/avchd plugin) https://www.mainconcept.com very reasonable price, works fine and gives you 5.1 sound encoder export too.
