  • Avchd, 50i footage – project settings, transcode?

    I have a digital camera with footage shot in avchd, 50i. When I drop it on a project in fcpx, the project is 50p. I’m going to screen it from QT on a tv, directly from my mac – mirrored – or is it a better way? Dvd? Should I change to 50i under project settings?

    Should I transcode? Uggggh – confused!

    50i = 25fps.

    If you are going to play this from QT player it is best to set your project settings to 25p.

    If you are going to make a DVD it is best to set your project settings to 25i.

    Ok, thanx.
    And transcoding is just for the workflow? If the system handles my editing, I don’t have to transcode. It doesn’t influence the Finished result?

    If your system handles your footage natively you don’t need to optimize it to prores. This won’t affect the quality of your final master.
