I’m shooting a run & gun type corporate project with a HPX300, mostly daylight exteriors and I’m looking at shooting AVC50 to get twice amount of record time since I won’t be in a clean area to download cards during the day.

I’m wondering if anyone has tested the differences between AVC100 & AVC 50, I did a few exteriors tests and the 50 looks pretty good.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hey Jeremy,

Thanks for the link, it presents a good case for AVC 50 over XDCAM.

I now feel comfortable shooting AVC50 for this project.

    AVC-100 is 4:2:2 full raster.
    AVC-50 is 4:2:0 thin raster.
    Both are 10 bit.

    Jeremy,

I’m not familiar with the term thin raster. Can you explain how it differs from full raster?

    Thanks!

In ordet to get the file sizes smaller, a lot of techniques scale down the footage to less that full raster size (1920×1080). The thin raster size is 1440×1080. 960×720 for 720p.
