I run a small production/post-production house and we currently have 2 intel macs and 2 G5’s and we shoot on the Panasonic HPX 300. We’ve been shooting on the 300 for 2 years, long before we upgraded our intel’s to FCP7. From what i understand it is impossible to view/inport AVC intra codec on a non-intel computer, but one of my editors told me that long before we upgraded to FCP7 we were able to import our video(shot on HPX300) just fine using FCP6 on the G5’s. Could that have been possible or was he mistaken?
And is there ANY way to view AVC-Intra on a G5? Pardon my ignorance.

There is no way. AVCIntra is only supported on Intel Macs. If you even try to look at it in FCP, it will give the warning “AVCI is unsupported on PPC.”

This is the reason a friend of mine had to buy a new MacPro…retire his G5.
