November 11, 2005 at 1:36 amIt has been confirmed several times that yes, the camera will sell (in the US) in December. There is no official launch date, just the month. We have been assured up through yesterday that this is still the case.
As for availability, it is unlikely that those who do not get on a preorder list will be able to obtain a camera in the first batch. EVS, for example, has already 80 people on their preorder list, and it is not even known yet if they will receive quantity to fulfil all of those orders. My advice if you’re intent on getting the camera right away is to call around and see who is offering it, what their price will be (most are in the $5,500 range for camera-body alone), and seeing how many people are currently on their list. The big vendors (EVS, Abel Cine, B&H, Birns & Sawyer) will probably get the biggest first shipments, so that is a good place to start looking.

November 11, 2005 at 3:21 amI’ve talked to a few resellers already, none of them are confident that I will see the camera by the end of December if I place a pre-order right now. I’m holding off until 2006 before I make my decision now. Maybe after I see some footage, hear some real user reviews, and find out more about the Firestore offering, the decision will be a bit clearer.

November 11, 2005 at 3:36 amJan was saying they will probably post some footage to coincide with DVexpo in LA Dec 4-7. Microsoft has a download section to preview WMV HD and Apple also has a section to download Quicktime HD. That’s all we need is some footage from the AG-HVX200 to compare.

November 11, 2005 at 12:49 pmPersonally, I don’t want to see edited footage from the camera. I’d like the ability to download raw footage in the native .MXF file format and see how it handles myself on my machines. That should speak for itself in terms of what the camera is capable of.

November 12, 2005 at 7:41 amIf they manufacture the model something like 500 pieces per week and start next week, you can calculate from there. Maybe in January certain portion of manufacturing turns to “PAL”-model…

November 12, 2005 at 8:05 pmAnd btw, it’s highly unlikely that there will be any camera+cards bundles within EU.
There’s a customs duty for importing video camera into EU, so if camera is bundled with memory cards, the latter would get the customs duty also.
