A/V sync drifts using FCP
Can anyone please help?… When I try and edit a project using FCP the audio gradually drifts from the video. The video plays out just fine in QuickTime player (16 bit/48k). The original source video was Hi-8 and VHS. The files were digitized and dumped onto my External Hard Drive as .mov files to be used in FCP. I have already tried to fix the problem, using Automator and tried various Audio/Video settings, all to no avail. Also, even after I sync the audio and video on my own. When I match frame a clip in the timeline to modify it, it shows a completely different frame in the Viewer.
Any suggestions? -

Depends on what device you used as the digital interface.
Here’s a quick fix:
unlink the video from the audio. Find the out point of the audio track, trim it back, and write down its length. Find the outpoint of the video track and write the exact length. They will obviously be different, usually the audio is a bit shorter but you have said. Use speed adjust on the audio track to manually set a length that is exactly the same as the video track. Relink the tracks, tjhey will align perfectly.You may want to export and create new media. Otherwise you will be forever losing sync.

I am having the same issue and am pretty devastated. I had all of my home movies transferred to quicktime files (originally Hi8). The audio and video are in sync when I play in quicktime, but when imported to FCP, they are way off. When I try to match up, it only matches up for a few seconds and then is off again. I think this is a frame rate issue — what can I do ?? Please help!!
