    Hi,

Anybody had similar trouble? I’m using FCP 5.0.3 and despite the user prefs being set to autosave every 10 minutes, the autosaves are only happening very irregularly. Example: twice in one minute, twenty minutes later, 50 minutes after that.

i’ve cleared out my prefs and reset them, but no changes.

(and i’m not cancelling the autosave when the window pops up.)

    any ideas?

    thank you,
    -karim

    Karim,

I am having the same problem except I cannot get autosave to work at all.

Did you upgrade to FCP 5 from FCP 4.5? Did you upgrade to Tiger also?

If so which did you upgrade first FCP or Tiger?

I upgraded FCP before Tiger and have been told that this is not the ideal method to upgrade.

I should have upgraded the OS first then the applications, drivers etc.

So I intend on doing this on another drive to start over again.

    Hi, Tony

    >Did you upgrade to FCP 5 from FCP 4.5? Did you upgrade to Tiger also?
The G5 came with Tiger installed. We bought and installed FCP 4.5 then the upgrade to FCP 5.0.

Let me know if you have any luck with your re-install…

There has been an autosave “issue” for years now.

One of the conditions that can start the problem is:
if you “Log and Capture” during an edit session, many times the autosave will not work (or not work properly) after you complete the “Log and Capture”.

    The workarounds are:

    1. CONSTANTLY, Constantly, constantly (get it?) MANUALLY hit save.

    2. Quit FCP and Open it again. This usually starts the autosave working.

Even then, its simply good practice to do “1.” above throughout any edit session.

    Matte,

My backup has been to do a “save as” to create a duplicate file of the project renaming the file project with the abbreviations BK behind the name.

I do this in addition to saving the project with the original name.

As a policy I always rely on my manual “save as” files as my fallback instead of the autosave.

Up until now I had never had a problem with autosave not saving per my defined settings.

Kim- Never use auto save anymore. It was driving me crazy especially when the project got up to 3 or 4 megabytes and the editing would come to a screeching halt for 2 or 3 seconds while it auto saved. Best habit to get into is hit ‘apple-S’ every 5 for ten minutes. Then at the close of the editing session save to a jump drive or similar which dismounted and NOT part of the computer system. Works best for me.
