Autopoles and wallpaper
hey everyone,
I was on a location set recently. unfortunately the space was so small that having light stands, tripods, and crew on set would have been too much of a mess to look good. It was decided we’d rent an autopole. It ended up working great, and the footage came out looking beautiful. The problem is I received a message that the autopole left a mark of some kind on the wall paper. I’ve only been told about it, and haven’t been able to see the actual mark.
I’ve never used an autopole on wallpaper before, and just wanted to know if anyone else has, and if it’s hard to fix. Any advice y’all could give would be great!

Well, if the paper was thick, it might have gotten a “calendared” impression put into it by the pressure of the autopole’s cups. When the walls are potentially delicate, you should be spreading the weight with a wooden pad and something under it to help protect the wall surface, even if it’s just some cloth or a mouse pad or something like that.
I love autopoles and used them a lot in my youth.

THIS.
If I”m using my autopoles horizontally in an unknown location, you should some 12″ squares of 1/4″ plywood, or maybe raid your kitchen for a few cookie sheets to act as force spreaders for the walls.
If the surface is particularly delicate, you can use stick-on hardwood floor furniture pads on the wall side of the plywood, providing even more protection.
