This may be a dumb question, but- I can’t be the ONLY one who has wanted this:

Does anybody know if a plugin/script exists (or is even possible) that would allow me to tell Premiere to use an attached script/speech analyzed content to automatically generate a rough cut of something?

It would be perfect for training content, corporate/industrial video.

I haven’t seen anything like this, but you should be able to slam through the rough cut pretty quickly yourself: you can mark ins and outs and make your edits directly from the analysis text in the metadata panel.

I have done a couple projects this way: sending recordings out for transcription, feeding that transcription script into Premiere’s speech analysis, and then rough-cutting from the metadata panel instead of the source viewer.

I didn’t really find that much room for automation. The writers cut down the transcriptions, but what worked on paper didn’t always work with the actual audio. Having the analysis text made finding the phrases I needed much quicker, but I still had to spend a lot of time selecting the best takes and smoothing over the audio edits.

Boris’s Soundbite is a terrific tool for this – if you have a verbatim transcript you don’t even need the timecode connection — type in the phrase and find the bite you need – quick and painless — it’s an amazing timesaver – we’ve used with Final Cut and it now apparently works with Premiere Pro as well

I’d usually agree with you, but it is more a question of speed than laziness, I often have projects shot on a monday due on a tuesday.

If I could streamline the process of talking heads, by adding scripts, it would be invaluable to me and to my sleep schedule.

Hi Andy – Have you been able to use Soundbite with Premiere Pro? I’ve been trying to make it work and it seems like the project needs to be in a FCP format for Soundbite to work.
