    Hey guys,

Just a quick note to say if you use the Automatic Duck Pro Importer at all to convert AVID timelines to FCP, do not use it with Tiger. I just ran into an issue where the converted timelines were literally almost 45 seconds off the correct timecode. Took me three days to realize that my laptop is running Tiger and that’s where I was downloading and converting the AVID OMF’s in FCP 4.5.

This morning I moved the raw OMF to my G5 system which is still running 10.3.8 with FCP 4.5 and this time the Duck imported it with the timecodes dead-on.

I’m sure Wes and the gang will come out with an update to Tiger some time soon as it’s just an awesome product and it’s fun to have a project start out on AVID and finish on FCP in HD.

…Also on 10.3.9 the ProImport plugin crashed the plugin folder for FCP 5.0 until I removed it.

Yeah, there’s a note about FCP 5 right on their site. Basically don’t use it for FCP 5 at the moment.

“Automatic Duck has heard reports from some early adopters that at least some of our products have problems in Final Cut Pro 5.0. Turns out that if one of our plug-ins is installed in FCP 5, no other third-party plug-ins will appear in Final Cut. This appears to affect things like DeckLink and AJA cards too.

We are on the case and working closely with Apple to resolve the issue.”

Wes is currently looking at my OMF files and the imports on both Tiger and 10.3.8 and I’ll get back to you when he figures out what’s going one. Great guy and I’m sure we’ll have an answer soon.

    Walter

I wanted to add the the xml export from FCP5 is not working with many apps either. I cannot get the FCP5 XML to import into
silicon color at all, it keeps looking for a tape that is not in the code or in the project.

SO Kids— do not try this at home or at the very least not on your working machine.

Amen to that! That’s why I’m cutting this broadcast series (paying job) on FCP 4.5 with OS 10.3.8 and I’m cutting my own independent film on FCP 5.0 / Tiger.

Right, Gary… XML from FCP 5 will not work with Final Touch HD.

The workaround I have discovered for AD XML export is to rename it zzzAD… That way, it loads last. Seems that it kills any 3rd party apps that load subsequent to it. Then, by renaming, al of the 3rd party plugs load. And AD XML does work.

    Hi ned,

sound slike the old days of OS6 extensions ;-).

Do you mean by changing the name of the automatic Duck plugin aja or decklink drivers will
load and that solves the problem??

Have you check if you use the import from Avid that it is spot on?

i’m putting a system as we speak and i’ll need the Automatic plug in to work ;-(
I have have as a back up plan for the customer a second internal ATa drive with
Panther and FCP 4.5 just in case the caca hits the fan ;-).

Do the import via FCP 4.5 on the Panther System and it should come in dead on accurate. So far in this first episode of the series I’ve had to slip a total of 4 shots about 5 frames each and those were in collapsed tracks from the AVID, which appear as nests in FCP.

Even if you’re just running Tiger with FCP 4.5, you don’t want to do the import on the Tiger System. That’s what I have running on this laptop, FCP 4.5 / Tiger. The timecodes were almost 45 seconds off.
