Automate multicam edits in increments?
Posted by Joe Knapp on April 21, 2014 at 3:26 pmHey guys,
Is there any way to automate a multi-cam edit, so that it will switch streams every (x) # of seconds? Perhaps through a plug-in, or a Premiere technique? I’m trying to make this as automatic as possible.
Or, without the multicam aspect, what about simply cutting in a source in increments?
Example: Every 30 seconds, it cuts to the 2nd source for 30 seconds, and back to the 1st.Antonio Junior replied 11 years, 10 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

April 22, 2014 at 6:28 pmHey Joel…
this assumes you multi cam master is in your sequence
1) make a color matte or black video in your project panel…
2) load it into your source viewer…
3) set the duration to 30 seconds long
4) patch your sequence so that edits from the source viewer will land on v2 and not affect your video on track 1 or your master audio
5) now edit your 30 sec clip from your source viewer repeatedly to track 2 in your sequence. Probably fastest with the hot key. (likely the . key or if you are using fcp shortcuts, f10.
6) do this until you’ve reached the duration of your multicam clip (hint…you can visibly mute v2 so you don’t have to see the black clip)
7) go home on the timeline
8) now patch your timeline so that v1 (where your multi cam master is, is enabled
9) using your hotkey to advance to next edit should move your play head to the edit between the black clips on v2
10) using your keyboard shortcut to change cameras should add an edit at this point to your master clip on v1
11) repeat 9 and 10 with a couple of keyboard strokes should do this pretty quickly…hope that helps…

April 22, 2014 at 9:00 pmThanks, Alex! That’s not a bad workaround. I’m hoping for something a bit more automated, but this might work.
I have a 4-hr piece that is essentially a locked-down camera of a presenter & a screen (yawn). I’m trying to make it less grueling by cutting in the presenter’s Powerpoint slides at certain intervals. I also have another project where the presentation is hours-long that could use the same treatment, but at least there are multiple cameras. The stuff I get handed, I tell ya…
Guess I’m trying to put lipstick on a pig. 😉

June 22, 2014 at 2:49 pmA little late to the party but…I use both PP and Vegas…I have a custom script in Vegas that will do exactly what you want…if you need to do a lot of multicam automated switching…it just might be worth investing in a Vegas license…that’s pretty well the only reason I still use Vegas.
