Just wondering if there’s a way to automate (i.e., keyframe on and off) the FX switch for an effect in the Effects Control panel.

I want to have an effect switch on at a certain point in time, because if I leave it on for the whole length of the comp it affects the layer in a way I don’t want it to – it causes it to become partially blurry and dispersed.

The effect is Pixel Polly. Perhaps I’m approaching this in the wrong manner? The reason I’m asking this question is that even with all the parameters reset, Pixel Polly is still having an effect on the layer.

    Hope that’s not too nonsensical!

Pixel Polly has been around for a long time, one of the original bursters, very cool.
The documentation may not be very clear but I know it’s there with the application but you must use a copy of your layer created by using the Split Layer command. You apply PP to the second part of the split.

Pixel Polly is worth the effort and you can spend lots of time playing with the ballistics. You can also apply it twice to really make things interesting.

David and Dave, thank you very much. I will check into the split layer thing – I hadn’t thought of that. Also, hold keyframes I have read about in various contexts, but haven’t really looked into using them. That’s about to be remedied…!

Thanks very much for your valuable knowledge – and talk about quick response time!

    Cheers,

LaRonde is correct in saying hold keyframes can be employed to do stuff like this except there is no “Effect On/Off” attribute in Pixel Polly that can be keyframed. PP is always on.
I think you are trying to activate the little fx switch that appears under the eyeball in the controls? No can do.

When it was released by Final Effects (or was it Studio Effects?), Pixel Polly was the one filter that forced us all to learn how Split Layer worked.

Yes, you’re right – that’s what I’m trying to do, activate the little FX switch. Split layers it is, then…
