As mentioned in a previous post, I’ll be working with Autocad dwg files on an upcoming proj and just wanted to know if there are some folks hangng out here that have worked in the Cad environment and have transitioned a set of drawings to AE in some manner – for some purpose.

The object drawings are already x-y-z proportionate with good perspection and should (I think) make the job of a virtual 3D tour a little less grueling. Am I only dreaming that adding thickness and depth to an angle viewed frame by frame as the camera moves through the tour would require more rendering in Cad but seems to me, less time spent in any sort of extrusion process in AE to achieve the same results.

As you would agree, the scope of views, transitioning, colorizing, rendering, and sequencing could 9and might) get ballistic but I just need to concentrate on the validity of my first approach to the proj for now.

In a word then, any comments, observations, or even damning evidence that I’m off my rocker would be much appreciated.

    Thanks always.

    Hey Dave

One will always get the real lowdown from you and was hoping you’d join the fray.

AutoCad can do it all (textures, colorizing etc…) except for sequencing, with a little help from 3D Max. The larger part of the presentation fit’s AE’s do-ables. (Moving around the campus and a 3D-ish view) The real bits with a need for Cad are closeups of classrooms and only need one representative example. I know it could get as deep as I wish but will want to K.I.S.S as much as possible.

What do I expect from AE? Do some lighting, use some blur, manage my depth-of-field and sequence the comps. I can then move it to Liquid for the rest.

    Is that more realistic?
