I need to use the ‘auto-orient towards camera’ option with a camera that is not is in the composition that the auto-oriented layer is in. Does that make sense? Is there any way to get the ‘auto-orient toward camera’ option of a layer to recognize a camera that is outside its immediate composition?

I’ve searched the posts but couldn’t find a solution to this particular problem. Any help would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

This seems to do what you want:

    1) Turn off the Auto-Orient to Camera in the original comp the layer begins in.

    2) In the comp with the camera (let’s say comp 2) that you want the layer to orient toward the camera, even though it originated in another comp… add this expression to it’s Orientation:

    lookAt(thisComp.activeCamera.position,position)

R reveals the rotation, where Orientation lives, since I’m assuming the layer in question is also a 3D layer, when you brought it into the new comp (where aforementioned camera lives)…

I’m getting confused trying to explain this.

    But that works for me.
