auto contrast
Posted by Joe Orange on September 6, 2011 at 5:44 pmIs using auto contrast on a clip in AE a no-no, as it once was in Photoshop of old, where Curves were the preferred way to go for due to the linear overall affect of the “auto” option?
thanks

September 6, 2011 at 5:49 pmAuto contrast can be very useful for removing flicker, but it does not provide the degree of control over an image that a manually-controlled effect like Curves would.

Would you say that auto contrast is inclined to destroy or compress pixel highlight and shadow information as well?

September 6, 2011 at 6:27 pmThe Black Clip and White Clip settings will help you limit the destruction.

September 6, 2011 at 7:05 pmHow exactly?
Is there a way you can see the effect whilst using the slider as in Levels in Photoshop when pressing Alt whilst moving the sliders gives you a graphic view of what is being clipped or blown out? -

September 6, 2011 at 7:55 pmIf you add Levels effects before and after the Auto Contrast, you will be able to see the before and after histograms in the Effects panel.
