Does Avid Media Composer have an auto capture feature similar to Adobe Premiere CS4?

The feature in CS4 automatically detects timecode breaks on the tape being captured and creates clips based upon these break points.

    For DV footage, yes.

Go to your Capture Settings and click on the “DV&HDV Options” tab. Check the “DV & HDV Scene Extraction” box, and choose whether you want it to add locators, create subclips, or do both.

EDIT: Actually, I may have misunderstood your question. If you use DV Scene Extraction, Avid will create subclips for every time the camera was stopped and restarted. If you want Avid to make new clips everytime there is a timecode break, you should be able to just capture the entire tape. When Avid hits a timecode break it will end that clip and make a new one with the new timecode.

Sounds like what I might be looking for. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

Well it looked like it was exactly what I was looking for. I needed it to work with DVCPro. Unfortunately it only works with DV & HDV. This is a result of Avid using Time-of-Day Timecode for the auto-detection.

    Thanks for the help, anyway!
