  • Authoring XDCAM EX MP4 720 60p

First post… hoping the collective wisdom can help me.

I have a rendered file that I want to author and burn in Blu Ray but DVDA won’t accept the file and I’m hoping someone can tell me what I’m doing wrong or recommend another program that I can use to create a BD Menu and burn the file to BD -R.

I’m using the JVC HM100 and shooting footage in 1280×720-60p HQ (35 Mbps VBR) format.

The footage imports natively to Vegas 9 as XDCAM EX .mp4 with no problems. Editting was fine and I rendered the file as XDCAM EX mp4. No recompression was required and the rendering went off without a hitch. I can view the rendered file on my computer using VLC Media Player so no problems there.

When I go DVDA to author and burn the project, I’m setting it up as a BluRay Disc, with MPEG2 1280×720-60p, PCM Stereo. When I go to import the rendered .mp4 file, DVDA won’t allow it.

Am I setting up something wrong? If not, is there another program I could use to burn this to BluRay?

BTW, I do have a BluRay burner along with BD-R disks and a BluRay player.

That seems odd. I just rendered a small XDCAM file at 1280×720-60p and imported it without a problem into DVD Architect.

Your problem, however is moot. XDCAM MP4 cannot be burned directly to Blu-ray so DVD Architect is going to recompress the file anyway so you might as well render the correct file from Vegas to begin with. Blu-ray requires MPEG2 or AVCHD and you must use one of the “Blu-ray xxx” templates in Vegas if you don’t want DVD Architect to recompress the file.

JR, I have been trying without success to render 720p60 blu-ray. Here is what I’m doing, do you see anything wrong with my approach:

    1. Shot 720p60 (59.940) in my Panasonic HMC150.
    2. Rendered in Vegas 10c using Mainconcept mp2 HDV 720-30p template, but in custom set frame rate to 59.940. I rendered the audio as ac3.
    3. Imported to DVDA 5.2, which tells me the video be recompressed. The audio is ok.

Any suggestions how to eliminate the recompress?

Hi Jerry. I’m sorry if my previous post wasn’t clearer. When I said select one of the Blu-ray templates, I forgot to add, “and don’t change anything”. 😉

Blu-ray does not support 60p so you can stop trying. The valid frame rates are the same as DVD, 29.970, 25.00, & 23.976 (a.k.a. 24p). So there is no way to eliminate the recompressing if Blu-ray is your delivery format.

JR, I think blu-ray does support 60p because it is a listed format in DVDA’s new project settings. Wikipedia also shows 720p60 (59.940) as a valid blu-ray format. But it is curious that there isn’t a Vegas template for this format. With Sony originating the blu-ray technology you would think SCS would be the first to fully support it.

Ah… OK so 60p is supported at 720. I guess Sony has an issue in that DVD Architect is a bit ahead of Vegas Pro in that area. I would open a trouble ticket with Sony Support and see what they say.

Please post a solution to this problem if one becomes available. I am in the same situation with the exact specifications.
