I have a 5:30 video that I need to put on a dvd, it was shot in HD on mini DV tape. The dvd is being shown on what appears to be an hdtv and looks really low quality, I would like to figure out where I’ve gone wrong here and if it is possible to make this better. I need help getting this video encoded properly so that when it leaves compressor I have a usable dvd.

    Here are my questions:
Is it true that you can burn hd on regular dvd? Does this make a bit of difference?
Could my fcp sequence settings be messing things up?
I’m creating my own m2v preset in compressor (as per advice I read on this site) what are the settings I should be using for this type of video?

I realize that I am probably doing many things wrong here, but I am in the weeds and need help.
This is my first time posting and I’m sure I’ve left out crucial info let me know and I will provide more.

    Thank you!!
