Audio/video production for a beginner
This may not be the best place to be asking this question but hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction. I want to start making my own audio/visual productions. I just want to record and edit my own digital movies and create my own original music, voiceovers ect. to go along with these movies. It seems like most of the major digital audio software out there (dp, logic, cubase ect) have an “import video” feature but really don’t offer any additional video editing tools (please correct me if I’m wrong). On the other hand, imovie, for example, only offers the ability to import audio from itunes and really doesn’t have any additional audio features (audio recording, editing, mixing, sequencing ect.). Can I do what I’m describing in a single program? If so, can someone give me some recommendations? If not, I guess that multimedia artists are using multiple apps at once. If this is the case, is there a way to sync up an audio editing program with a video edting program (like an A/V equivalent to rewire)? I’d really appreciate any advice you guys can offer.

FCP Studio comes with Sountrack Pro, which, I think, would be great for this kind of thing. Couple that with Garage Band too, and you’ve got a very powerful, affordable and easy-to-use solution. For getting high quality audio in and out of your mac, I’d look at something like the Motu 828 mk II, which is what I’m using and I’m very happy with.
