So I’m now in post on a music video I’ve been commissioned to make. (Well, I say commissioned, what I mean is someone asked me to.) Anyway, I’ve got some effect-worth planned. One of these is a transition between two locations, but both featuring the singer singing. Now, I need to be able to hear the sound to pull this off, otherwise there will be bad synch. I don’t want bad synch. So the first thing I did was to just put the song on the timeline. I didn’t hear anything, so then I went into After Effects and manually synched up the song with the first shot, then rendered it out, overwriting that shot sans sound. However, still no sound. My sound card is working fine (listening to WinAmp at the moment), but the audio-panel is not showing anything. Is this a common problem with an easy solution, one that everyone stumbles upon, or is there something messed up with my setup?

    Greetings and thanks in advance,
    -Anne Lawant

If you’re trying to hear audio in After Effects make sure that the the audio switch in the timeline is turned on (its next to the eyeball) Then make sure your Time Control panel has audio playback checked on. Go to Composition-> Preview and make sure audio is checked. Make sure your computer volume is un-muted, turned up, and that your speakers are as well.

When you Make Movie, click on the Output Module where it says Lossless, make sure to check Audio Output and configure the settings. If you forget this step you’ll never export audio.

I did all that. Seems it’s something on my side that’s the problem… Weird that it’s only AE, not even Premiere Pro is having this problem…

I am having the same problem. I imported an .mov file and I can’t hear the audio. I know the audio imported with the movie file because I can see the audio waves. but my audio meters aren’t moving. I checked all those things LGABoarder recommended. Any ideas?
