Having an occasional weird problem on our 2nd edit seat, a G4 MDD with IO LA, 500g internal ATA RAID.
It’s got OSX 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 The IO has the latest firmware and driver (but the problem has happened
with QT 7 and older IO drivers, all kinds of combos). Video and audio will capture fine and when brought into
the timeline or the viewer, will be in perfect sync. Every once in a while a clip in the timeline will lose it’s
audio/video sync, by a lot, not a few frames, more like a second or 2. There doesn’t seem to be a specific incident
that causes it; I might be working elsewhere in the timeline and come back to that clip, or shut down and it’s there
when I reboot. I’v trashed both QT and FCP prefs.
If I click on the clip in the bin and play it in the viewer it’s fine, it’s only the clip in the timeline. Unfortunately,
the clips in the timeline are often L-cuts, so it’s not as easy as dragging from the bin. It’s also often one clip in the
timeline, not all of them. Any thoughts?

I just unlinked the audio from the video on one of these clips in the timeline. Once unlinked
it immediately showed the offset in sync, the video was 3 seconds ahead of the audio. It’s easy enough
to drag this particular clip’s audio 3 seconds to the left, but not so simple for other clips.

I’ve seen this a couple of times on my system, but not for some time. I think quitting and reopening FCP will fix the problem. You might also cycle the power on your La.

Thanks, but I’ve done both many times. Closing FCP and reopening has helped sometimes, cycling the IO power has not.
