I’ve just bought a macbook pro and am having trouble transferring MPEG files from my PC to Final Cut Pro…

The files were saved on my PC, after being directly ripped from my hardrive video camera. They were then saved onto an external hardrive. I attached the hardrive to my new mac, and the files seemed to copy across ok, but when i tried to play them in quicktime player i got an error message saying: ‘this is not a movie file’

When imported in to final cut, the video file worked, but there was no audio..

Ive been waiting to edit this footage for months so would be very grateful for any help/advice!! thanks

It sounds like the Macbook Pro is missing some Quicktime components that are needed to play back the files you transferred. Try downloading and installing Perian (perian.org) to see if it helps. Other free tools you can try include DiVX Doctor II and Flip4Mac Quicktime components.
