audio track fluctuates in sound level
I have a Zoom Q3 camcorder and it records video and audio. The manufacturer states that this unit has automatic level control but it doesn’t. Zoom Japan is investigating this problem and in the meantime suggested I try the trial version of Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 which I downloaded and installed. The file is a .mov file and Vegas Movie Studio imported quite well. When I look at the audio track waveform I see peaks and valleys and even the quiter portion of the audio track is all over the place. Is there a way that I can make the entire track one size waveform or one level within the .mov file and then save it first as a .mov and a mpeg- 2 file so I can make a dvd disc ?

welcome to the wonderful world of sound, which I know little about.
I have two projects that need sound help.
I am playing with the compressor settings, but I think you’ll have to export the sound track and run it on sourceforge or audacity to correct it right.
Let me know what you end up doing. There is also a tool called “sound envelope” where you can tweak one area of a track, but have yet to mess with that.

I think a better way is for me is to make video clips since this recording has a singer singing many songs but I don’t know to go about this because I never used this program before. Once I might be able to make individual video clips, then I could edit the audio track and make the waveform uniform for all the songs and then group them back together which I do not know how to do yet and this might make the level of all the audio be uniform. Perhaps someone might chime in and help me do this ?

What you are talking about is multi-camera editing.
You turn on 4 cameras, mark it with a clapper, start audio track have singer sing.
Complex stuff.
Or you can rough it, just single camera shoot, then split the audio and video, pray it matches up.
A real art form in itself, music videos. -

I already have a .mov file that has both video and sound. My problem is that I have the sound level fluctating and I am looking for some way to even out through out the entire audio track. I thought that if I were to make 25 separate edits of the original video, I might be able to correct the audio level of each video track and then stitch them back together to be one complete video.

I am probably not the best to answer this question.
You need to play with the compressor settings in audio.
a compressor will smooth it out, but it takes work.
Also you can export it to audacity and fix it in there, then erase the original track and copy it back in.
I’ve done that with some success.
