Audio sync problems on FCP in NTSC project
Hello everyone
My name’s Vladimir, I’m an editor and I work in Moscow
I started working on a big project that was shot in US on a betacam SP camera in NTSC. I have FCP on G5 Quad equipped with Kona LH card, that supports NTSC and PAL with equal success (I might be wrong please correctme if I really am). The footage was captured from Sony J-30 player, which supports NTSC as well, via SDI output with embedded audio. The clips look OK, but when I play them back from viewer or sequence have audio out of sync, it drops and then completely shuts after 7-8 seconds after start. I can’t put my finger on the problem I may have, so I’ll appreciate any advice on that. Thank you in advance.

Do the timeline settings match the capture settings?

What codec are you digitizing to and what kind of external disk drives are you capturing to?

I’m capturing to KONA card from Infotrend 2.5 TB RAID – I didn’t experience any problems playing 1080 HD from it. I triewd DV NTSC as well as Uncompressed 8 bit NTSC – result is the same. May be this info will help you. Do not hesitate to ask for any details. Thank you

Dear guys, I’m sorry for this mess I put here but I just figured out the thing. I was using a black burst generator (yes, PAL) that was on for years hidden in the rack. The time I switched it of audio came out just right. Sorry again for bothering you 🙂 that will be a lesson for me

In my experiences, problems always boil down to one switch. In this case, a blackburst power switch.
