  • Audio sync issues – convert .MOV to H.264 before editing?

Posted by Alex Townley on March 23, 2011 at 11:07 am

    Hi guys,

I am editing some videos using Final Cut Pro and uploading them to a site called Bits On The Run in H.264 format. However there seems to be some audio slipping. The website said that this is a fault with quicktime MOV files and the only way to eradicate this audio problem is to convert the MOV files into H.264 before editing them. Could someone please confirm that this is the right way to do this?

What format are the files when in FCP?
They should be .mov not h.264

    Nooooooooooo!

Quicktimes are always .mov, but they can be lots of different codecs (including H.264) – to edit properly your quicktime needs to be an editing codec (which H.264 isn’t). Also, the audio tracks ought to be uncompressed AIFFs at 48kHz. Beyond that, we’re into guesswork without a bunch more information…

Oh, and then convert to H.264 after editing and before posting.

Thanks for the help guys! Sorry if I wasn’t too clear, my colleague just asked me to find a solution to the problem without really explaining it properly!

Basically it turns out that we need export the videos as mp4 files through compressor so was wondering if anyone could recommend the best video settings for quality/speed?
