  • Audio Sync issue FCP w/24F Advanced pulldown–HELP!

Hello, I have read the other audio sync posts, and could not find a solution to my specific case. I’ll try to be as bullet point here as I can.

    Problem:

Audio Sync issue (gradual slippage over time) in viewer and canvas, but the Audio playback is fine in Quicktime original File.
I guess once it gets into FCP it goes out of sync.

–Not all files do this (I will capture (3) 1 hour long mini-dv tapes in a row, and the first may be fine, the other two are out of sync when played back in any area (viewer, timeline, canvas) of FCP. Or I will just capture 1 tape and it will be out of sync. In other words– there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this, which is, after all, the nature of problems.

When I check info on files, they all say:

    Format: DV, 720 x 480 (853 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz
    Frame Rate: 23.98

    Computer: Mac Book Pro 10.5.6
    Camera : Canon XHA1
    FCP : version 6.0

I am shooting on a Canon XHA1. My camera is set to 16:9, “24F” and the 24F mode is set to (2:3:3:2) as opposed to the other option which is simply 2:3.

    FCP setups:
    AV
    sequence preset:DV NTSC 48 khz 23.98

Capture preset: DV NTSC 48khz Advanced 2:3:3:2 Pulldown Removal

Anyone got anything on this one?

Found another way to remove audio sync drift in 24f:

open files in Quicktime (not through FCP), directly from hard drive

    select:file:

    export:options:settings

    settings:
    frame rate: custom 23.98
    compressor type: DvDVCPRO-ntsc
    scan mode: progressive
    aspect ratio: 16:9
    uncheck internet streaming
    quality at BEST

    Export.

(Change the name of the file if you need to, because otherwise you will have two files, the original with audio-sync drift when played through FCP, and the new version.)

This is a much faster work-around than re-digitizing the media.
