Audio sync isssue with DVDA3 – Multicam
Posted by Mark on September 20, 2005 at 12:52 pmThe audio on the ceremony is out of sync when I finalized the DVD. All other videos inside DVD play fine except the mulitcam ceremony. I think it has something to do with chapter makers (over 99), but I have deleted them this time and it still act up.
Help!

September 20, 2005 at 3:23 pmI had a similar situation where only a very small portion was out. Actually it was 2 very small protions but nonetheless…I looked at the original project, the rendered AVI and both were in perfect sync. When I looked at the MPEG/AC3 in DVDA2 it was out by about 12 frames. OOOPS! I tried to re-render that portion to MPEG and it was still out so I simply re-rendered the entire ceremony to AVI then replaced that portion in my complete project file, re-rendered and it was fine. Now here’s the thing, I had never seen anything like that before, I contacted Edward and he said he had never seen it before so we both scratched our heads before I rendered it. What I did do differently though was I rendered the 1st one as a 2 pass (vrb)and the 2nd as a 1 pass (vrb) BUT there is no way to know if that was the real problem or not. You might try the re-render route if you need to. Its crazy and will cause one to bang your head slowly against the wall. It never happened before and hasn’t since so perhaps it was the 2 pass, or maybe it was just the gremlims.
Good luck

I am using the latest version of Excalibur 4 that I downloaded from your site (you sent me a link about 2 months ago). I am running Vegas 6b and DVDA3.
The wedding ceremony is in sync when I output it in MPEG2. It is also in sync in DVDA3 when you play it on the timeline. But when I filnalize the video and play it back on a DVD player it’s quite a bit out of sync. All my other videos are in sync (interviews, toast, etc).
I had this problem last time I did a wedding (using multi-cam 3)The audio was ok until I finalized the DVD. However I solved this problem by deleting all my chapters. Since mulit-cam uses markers to cut the video, DVDA3 saves the markers from vegas and imports them as chapters (I know you now this, heck you designed it). Since I had over 99 chapters in my previous weddding video ceremony, I deleted them and put in the chapters I desired. This seem to fix the audio problem. So when I came across this issue again I deleted all chapters (even before I rendered as a mpgeg in vegas) and still have audio issues.
Any ideas?

September 20, 2005 at 4:51 pmYou might want to check the option in Excalibur to let Multi-cam delete the markers for you. This would eliminate that problem.
If it plays back in sync on the timeline, the rendered version should also be in sync. I usually render each “piece” out to a separate DV-AVI file. I then will create a “final” project where I assemble all the DV-AVI pieces for rendering to MPEG2.

Do you render the AVI with Vegas, or do you let DVDA3 do the file conversion from AVI to MPEG2? I will try a few methods tonight.Do you think the markers/chapters have anything to do with out of sync audio problems?

I usually render each section out to a DV-AVI file as I finish that section. I then will create a “final” project from all the various sections and then render THAT to MPEG2 in Vegas.

I honestly don’t know.
