I used to have an H4 audio voice recorder and now have a Sony
ICD-MX20. I’d like to use the Sony to record back up audio with my Camcorder.
However, both of these named recorders record the sound slightly out of sync with the camcorder sound. Every 5 minutes or so I have to split the audio track and adjust the sony audio track.
Does anyone know why this happens and if it can be corrected so that the voice recorder remain in Sync?
    Thank you, JK

It’s happening because the internal clocks on each of the devices is slightly off. The only way to solve this is with genlock which syncs all of the devices to an external clock. Unfortunately, none of your equipment supports genlock (nor does mine it’s only found on very expensive broadcast gear)

I shoot mostly live stage performances and I blend the audio from my Sony HVR-Z1 with the audio from my Marantz PMD-660 which gets it’s feed from the mixing console, and I have to slightly correct the audio about every 15 minutes. Clocks will always drift. The amount will depend on the quality of the device.
