I have been producing video for about 5 years and have had minimal success with sweetening my own audio recordings.

My old Premiere Pro system had a “Classic Master Limiter” that would boost my audio and limit the levels. I usually put that effect on most of my audio recordings, but now I’m on Mac and don’t have that particular effect.

I am looking for a simple combination of audio effects that will boost my voice recordings and cut room/mic noise. I am not a big audio guy and don’t know much about the audio filters in FCP. I have FCP Studio, so I can use Soundtrack Pro if needed.

    Any suggestions for improving audio?
Any books that will help me understand various audio effects and filters?

FCP has a full complement of audio “compressor/limiter” filters. Read the manual as to where they are and how to use them. Soundtrack pro has even more capable noise reduction/removal filters. THere is no “one click” solution to these kind of issues. Clean, rich audio tracks are usually the result of a series of steps.
