    Hello all,

I’ve been editing on Final Cut for a while now (12 years of exp on other systems) and I’ve noticed some glitches/strangeness that were not addressed in the FAQ but I hope others have experienced and worked around.

    Here’s two audio quirks:

    I.

I’ve got a 8 channel stereo sequence nested within an 8 channel stereo sequence. The primary sequence is over 100 minutes long. Playback is in safeRT. I’ve selected all and command-R’ed. I’ve used quite a bit of audio keyframing with the pen tool in both sequences.

If I play the sequence from where this pic above starts FC ignores the keyframes on the first clip, keeping the levels way up at +12 for the entire clip. Weird. But even weirder… if I place the cursor 2 seconds before those keyframes and play from there. Hey, no problem the sequence plays as it should (that’s the opposite of what I would expect btw). Final bit of strangeness, I take the same project home to finish the mix over the weekend on my laptop. No problems, the sequence plays fine, on my much less expensive MacBook Pro. Some kind of buffering problem? Shouldn’t I get an error message?

    II.

Same project different but similar sequence, I figured I’d just export a stereo aiff of the whole 100 minute program to do some eq, compression and normalization in Soundtrack Pro. The export at 7 different points ignores audio keyframing or inserts audio from another clip unreferenced in the sequence, and otherwise randomly “kinda does its own thing.” Which would be great for abstract performance art, but not so good in an editor. I’ll post some samples if anyone is interested. Once again no error message or other warning that something is not right. Just an exported file that does not match the sequence. This kind of thing scares the crap out of me.

    Thanks for your attention,

    Steve

When you have many audio tracks try an Audio Mixdown (Sequence>Render Only >Mixdown) and see if that helps. Have you trashed prefs and rebuilt permissions?

If your audio keyframes are being ignored, try deleting the audio render files with the Render Manager and then re-render your audio using Sequence>Render>Audio Mixdown.

Thanks for the speedy responses. I’ve decided to get in the habit of deleting and re-rendering the audio prior to layoff.
