Audio straight to 5D
Is anyone using a Beachtek or other converter to go from an XLR mic to mini plug into their 5D with great results? We mostly record to a Zoom H4N and we shoot time of day on the 5D and the Zoom and use Pluraleyes to sync. But for some web video work where workflow and speed from shoot to edit is essential, it would be nice to have final audio on the 5D clips as we convert them for the edit.
Anyone satisfied with their workflow for this?
BTW, we are also considering the Sound Devices ProRes recorder.

I have a friend who is using the beachtek straight into the 5D. He sent me a sample audio clip and it sounded fine. Make sure the camera is set to manual levels.
One thing is that the camera doesn’t display the audio meters in the viewfinder so it is a bit fiddly to setup. Also I suspect the camera audio would be a bit noisy if you had to add a lot of gain. The Beachtek is a passive device so it won’t add gain and it won’t power a condenser mic so it is small but limited compared to using a small powered mixer.
