Audio speed weirdness
A co-worker came to me with this problem today. On his FCP computer, he is having issues with audio track(s) playing back at the wrong speed. At first I thought it was probably a sample rate issue. The strange thing is he has a clip of music from out station package that plays incorrectly. Either the left channel or the right channel randomly plays at the wrong speed. These are standard 48K clips that have been used many times in the past. Each time you pause and restart the timeline one channel or the other plays incorrectly. At no time do BOTH of the channels go bad. Besides the music, there is a 2-channel stereo announcer track that behaves the same way. All audio is 48K and 16bit. All tracks are set up as stereo pairs. Timeline is standard 1080 ProRes with 48k 16 bit audio setup using the Easy Setup.
I’ve never seen a system do this before. I wouldn’t even think it COULD do this. The audio is being temporarily being monitored directly from the computer line output rather than through the Kona LHi card. The external video is currently set to None since there is no external monitor attached at the moment. The FCP system is in a different suite than normal while the original is being overhauled so it’s not fully set up right now.
We tried the usual trashing of preferences, etc.
This is a strange one to be sure. Ideas?E=MC2+/-2db
