    Hi all,
I have a shoot coming up in a couple of days. My subject will be doing a seminar in a large room (like a ballroom). She will be set up (by the tech people there) with a mic and her voice will be projected out through speakers. For audio I thought I might just capture the ambient sound into the cameras (Panasonic DVX-100B) on-camera mic.
Would this be a mistake? Do I need to wire her up with a wireless Mic?
Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

A good solution would be to get a direct audio feed from the house system.

See if you can make arrangements with the tech for the event.
    A pre-show TEST is a must.

Feed this to only one channel on your camera.

On the “other” channel, record the room acoustically, just in case.

You should at the least have a mic on your subject, be that a lead from the sound system, nice, but not always possible, if you cannot do that you shoul put them on a wireless. keep the on camera mic open for the room ambience so that when you mix in post you will hav some nat sound to go along with the close micing.

    Best,

    Jan,

Hopefully your recent injury won’t keep you away from NAB this weekend. Best of luck during your recovery.

personally if poss id suggest your own mic. if the pa mic goes unstable and howls then at lease the howl for you will just be ambient pick up and not the much worse direct feed.
