This might be obvious but it’s driving me nuts

I’ve just borrowed a friend’s DSR-11 to capture something that was shot on a Panasonic at 24p [that’s all I know]

But I can’t capture video and audio together – Avid keeps coming up with “You may not capture audio and video together unless the audio sample clock is pulled down”

I click the pulldown button and I get a “pulldown not supported message”

    I’m using a PowerBook G4
    OSX 10.4.8
    Avid 5.6
    I’m capturing through fire wire

I’ve tried in a project set at 24p NTSC and then one set at 23.976 NTSC

    It works at 30i –

Any assistance to save my neighbors from hearing more of my expletives would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you in advance

Wait – you’re using a DSR-11 to capture Panasonic 24p (DVCPro??) source material? I’ll bet that’s your problem. I don’t think the DSR-11 will support that Pannie format – it may play it, but won’t support the pulldown of 24p. Just a thought…

    Ah – ha

Is there a list out there where a novice editor can check which tape formats can be captured on which deck? Or perhaps better, which tapes cannot be captured in native format.

You see I borrowed the DSR-11 but now I’ll probably have to rent another one.

    Thanks in advance

Each manufacturer’s website should have a list of what formats their equipment supports.

    As a GENERAL rule…

Panasonic decks will play most SD DV and DVCAM formats.
Sony will usually play Panasonic SD formats. The rub, as I understand it, is Panasonic uses a slightly higher tape speed, and Sony uses a lubricant on it’s tapes. SO, if you use Panasonic decks and have Sony cameras, it’s best to use Panasonic tapes in your cameras to avoid head problems. At least that’s how we do it – it works great.

Once you start talking about HD / 24p stuff, you really need to check the individual deck – if it doesn’t specifically say HD, chances are it won’t play it. We don’t shoot 24p, so I’m not familiar with workflow issues… Here’s a link to Avid’s list of supported devices:
