audio recording
Posted by Richard Milner on August 12, 2011 at 3:29 amI am curious to know if it is possible for me to record audio directly into VP10 instead of recording it in another program and importing it in.
If it is possible, can you do it on the fly. What I mean by that, is can you allow the timeline to run where you can hear the other audio track and record to a new track at the same time?
Blessings!

Absolutely. This is how you do ADR and overdubs. There is no need for any other audio program for recording.

Yes, You can even punch-in and out automatically by using timeline selections. You can also monitor with FX, record multiple tracks at once, etc. Vegas is a very capable DAW in that respect. Look up audio recording in the help file. You’ll be surprised at how much capability is there.

August 13, 2011 at 2:22 amJohns right. Vegas was just audio for the first few versions. It sees dx and vst plugins. No need to leave Vegas unless you need virtual instruments.

August 13, 2011 at 2:47 amCan VP10 be used as a DAW by itself? Also can it be used as a multitracking recording software where you plug in a Presonus 8 port audio interface to record?
Blessings!

August 13, 2011 at 4:32 amSo I can hook up all 8 channels at once and record all at once. I wish they still made the Inspire 1394. It might not been very good as a chain interface, but it was the best external soundcard America has ever seen.
Blessings!

August 13, 2011 at 5:17 amI have an older 8-CH Presonus and an equally old Laptop with firewire, running Vegas 9 just for recording 8-tracks of audio.
The whole kit fits into a 4U DJ’s box. I am going to be doing location audio for an indie film next month using this setup.

As others have already stated. Yes, you can do full blown multi-track audio recording right in Vegas. It can even match pitch and tempo for ACID loops. In the project properties you can set the beats per measure for the project and switch the timeline ruler to Measures & Beats.

August 13, 2011 at 8:59 pmI recently bought a new audio rig ( the RME UFX ) and I fully intend on integrating it with vegas pro 10 as a 64 bit DAW. I believe that there is no MIDI support in Vegas, but short of that I see few limitations with Vegas as a DAW.
Back with Vegas 4, I used to use an Mbox1 as a transport that linked to a focusrite preamp through SPDIF.
Back then, the ASIO support was limited and the Avid drivers weren’t very good, yet I got away with it on small projects. So outside of some 64 bit ASIO problems concerning audio drivers that I’ve heard rumored about Vegas pro 10, You should be off and running. The 32 bit version of Vegas 10 purportedly runs the audio ASIO drivers with no issues.I’ll report back next week when I get my new system up and running.
Good luck!
