audio recorder to replace 4hn Zoom
Hi.
My Zoom 4hn is on its last legs and I’m looking for a replacement/upgrade. Zoom
was OK, except the battery died on a few occasions mid-interview (or was shutoff
without stopping) which corrupted the file and I want something that won’t do
that, with either a battery backup, or one that constantly rights the header
info…I;ve been looking at a few options:1) Tascam dr100mkii
2) Tascam HDP2 A lot more but mabye Worth the extra $? Is it becoming obsolete since its been around so long…

I went from a 2 track H4 to a 6 track Tascam DR-680, and the Zoom H1. For me the larger recorder is great, I like having a lot more tracks to work with and was tempted to get the Tascam 100, but would have needed two of them, so the 680 was the one I chose.
I found two tracks limiting and did not want to get a mixer, I would rather have separate in production and mix in post.

Nb I dont object to a mixed scratch track for the editors tho. Theyre a simple breed.Post Production Dubbing Mixer

Staying with two tracks, Marantz PMD-661. I love it. Had Zoom, it died, bought HDP2, great sound, too big, also interface was ‘old’. 4 channell, love the Edirol. For best quality at highest price, save up for Sound Devices. Holds value longest.
I use a mixpre-d for premix, and monitoring when shooting with Hdslr.Excellent unit, worth the price.
Mixing both at shoot and in post are good (g).
