Audio problems when edit to tape on FCP
Hi
We have a Decklink HD Pro (Dual Link) on a Power Mac G5 2.5, running FCP 5.0.4.
When edit to tape to a Sony Digital Betacam ,we get a light from channel condition and when playing the tape we have no audio (got audio when scrubbing!!).
Later we test a Decklink HD (single link) and get the same problem.
Any clue?thx in advance

Hi Joao,
Have you checked if your VTR is set to receive SDI audio?
Also check the reference settings.

the AJA product does the SAME THING if you don’t genlock. Once again, the idea of “no genlock needed” is not accurate information. Pro products (like your DVW-A500) want to be locked to an external source, and are not happy referencing to the incoming sync. You can see this on an AVID Adrenlaine HD as well (if you yank the Reference In to DNA input).
Buy a black generator (or wait for the Multibridge Studio to be released).

Make sure you set the Out Ref switch on the Digibeta to Input Video. That should take care of the problem.

Yes!, as Bob Zelin said it was a genlock problem. Since i genlock Decklink HD PRO, no more audio problems when edit to tape …. so Blackmagic “no genlock needed” is not accurate at all …

I’ve been running my decklink systems for 2 years, without genlock. If the deck is properly configured you don’t need blackburst.

Like I said in my previous post, just make sure the Out Ref switch on the Digibeta is set to Input Video. I output hour-long shows to Digibeta without any sync issues.
A blackburst generator is nice to have, especially if you have lots of gear to sync up, but it’s not necessary.

I know this will seem like I am looking for a fight (and I am not), but it seems over and over again – that it is almost a matter of pride, that you can have a hi end FCP MAC G5 system with Blackmagic Hardware, an expensive drive array, expensive monitors, and a $50,000 Digi Beta VTR, and some people would rather DIE than buy a $289 black generator, and try every trick in the book to avoid using one.
I just don’t get this mindset. The Multibridge Studio will solve all these issues in the future.

I actually do have a blackburst generator, but I just haven’t seen a need to use it. I agree, the multibridge studio will rock, especially the tri-level part of the sync gen.
