Audio problem
I have a project created using Premiere Pro 2.0. It is basically a collection of sports related highlights set to music. I have the audio from the clips in track 1 and the mp3 music audio on track 2. I use the MC encoder to create my DVD video file (m2v) at CBR 7.8 and my audio file as a PCM.
I create me DVD with encore (simple, simple layout) and it looks great on my pc and set-top players but I experience a problem everytime it’s played on a MAC. Some of the clips don’t have audio when played on the MAC. The music track is always there and a lot (if not most) of the clips do have audio. What could be causing this problem?
I don’t understand why I’m having an issue when I’m using settings that are straight forward and have about as little loss in quality as possible. Everything would appear to adhere to strict dvd compliance so why would a MAC (or in this case 3 different ones) have problems?
In case it matters, footage was filmed with vx2000 and PD-170.

Just out of curiosity: Why use the MainConcept encoder vs the Premiere Pro encoder?
Secondly, have you tried to skip the encoding step and taken the file directly into Encore? If not, please try that out and report back.
I think you may be running into problems because you are using the PCM audio format. Try using AC3 and see if that solves the problem.

I thought that MainConcept WAS the encoder packaged with PP2, if not then I’m using the encoder packaged with PP2.
I don’t want to take the file directly into encore because that may not ultimately be the authoring package I use. I felt like encoding out of PP2 would give me the flexibility to use whatever tool I want. I’m not losing anything by doing this, correct? Encore is not transcoding anything when I build the DVD so I would assume that my files where already compliant. Also, wouldn’t I be encoding twice to get from from PP2 to encore? I could lose some quality and would prefer to skip that intermediate step.
Finally, isn’t PCM the highest quaility I can get for audio? If not, what would be? Isn’t AC3 Dolby Digital? I’m not familiar with that compression, what would be the best settings to use?
