Audio present in preview but not render
Hi,
I’m an experienced Vegas user (been using it since version 4). I just upgraded to Vegas 8.0c from 6. Having a weird audio problem. The audio is fine when I’m in the editor. Pressing spacebar and looking at the preview window, everything’s fine, I can hear the audio. But when I render a video out, regardless of format, the audio is missing. I’ve tried avi, wmv, qt, mpg, everything.
If I reimport the render into vegas, the audio track is flat with no waveform, indicating that it’s simply rendering silence.
If, however, instead of rendering to a video file, I render an audio file (wav or mp3), it creates a proper file with the audio I’d expect.
Anyone experience this problem before?

Have you double checked your audio render settings?
By going into the custom menu in the render as
window and selecting the audio tab…make sure that
include audio is ticked and you have your format selected.Steve Rhoden

Problem solved. This one had me ripping my hair out for many hours.
I realized that when I rendered the audio as MONO (which, for my purposes, is all I needed for this project) it rendered silence. And when I rendered to stereo, it rendered audio, but then for some weird reason I had trouble hearing it, even though the waveforms were perfect.
Come to realize, the audio in the source video that my client provided was flawed.
Their camera audio (for some reason) was a STEREO feed but the left and right channels were identical, but INVERSE from each other.
So when it was downmixed to mono, the two channels cancelled each other out. When I played it in stereo on my pc speakers, the waves cancelled each other out in the air.
Weird, crazy, once-in-a-lifetime problem, resolved by simply clicking “Channels…Left Only” on each audio source.
