    Hi Folks
I’m currently using FCP4.5 and need to do a bit more with the audio than it will allow, without going to a seperate sound engineer and full audio post.

I want to export an OMF into an audio prog and tidy up the mix – mainly EQ and compression. Then pull it back into the FCP project for playout.

    Any suggestions or comments welcome!
    Thanks

Use Soundtrack. Soundtrack Pro allows you to bring in your timeline audio…and mix and add to it, and have it reflect your changes in the FCP timeline.

    Thanks Shane,
I’ve currently only got soundtrack (not Pro) and was not at first glance impressed by it – I couldn’t see how to import an OMF. Will it do the job effectively or do I need to upgade to Pro. Have they dramatically improved it? I’ve read the Apple sales pitch – but they are trying to sell it!
    What’s your experience?
    Cheers
    David

I export OMF files to our audio guy, using PrpTools, all the time and it works well…providing you have the OMF plug-in for ProTools.
Export out of FCP and import into ProTools is a snap. All the clips come into the audio program on their original tracks.
About the only thing to watch out for is any rubberbanding of audio in FCP does not come thru the process into ProTools.
Otherwise it’s pretty painless and reliable.

Soundtrack doesn’t work with OMFs. You export a file for Soundtrack. It is an option in the FILE menu. EXPORT FOR SOUNDTRACK. FCP 5 might work best with ST Pro…dunno. Didn’t try 4.5 and pro…

And the only the new ST Pro has this option…not soundtrack.
