Audio popping between clips on the timeline
Hi there,
I’m sure the answer to this question is simple but my Google Fu is failing me today. When I place two clips together in the timeline for a jump cut, there is an audible pop between the clips. It doesn’t seem to matter where the cuts are made.
I have been working around this by dropping the levels for a fraction of a second at the start and the end of the clips, underlaying ambient audio. But this project is an event with lots of cuts and it’s not very practical.
Why is this happening, is there something I’m doing wrong and is there an easy fix please?

Normal I put to 2 Frame audio dissolve, still a pain but faster that keyframing.

Michael’s suggestion will fix your popping. The reason it happens is you’re creating a near-instantaneous change in level from one clip to the next. This in effect creates a vertical ending or leading edge of the waveform and that causes the pop. If you zoom into your sequence tight enough, you’ll see this. Some high-end systems will force what’s called a zero-crossing cut which means the audio is only cut where the waveform crosses the horizontal axis at 0 db. Other systems will automatically apply a short crossfade at every cut (as Michael has suggested).

Michael, John, thanks for taking the time to reply and explain. Much appreciated. I will use a 2 frame preset audio dissolve from now on, it works a treat.
