    Hi,

I have a strange issue with some audio files that are edited in Pro Tools and brought to Premiere timeline. The audio clips have dialogue with actors mixed with some background sounds to create atmosphere. When bringing the audio clip to the timeline, I can only hear the background sounds. When using the Audio Mixer and panning to left or right, the dialogue with the actors becomes audible. But when the audio is panned to the middle, I can only hear the background sounds, with no dialogue. The files have normal stereo tracks (L&R) according to the sound designer.

I’m working with a Windows 7 64 bit PC, and with Premiere Pro CS6, and monitoring audio throught the motherboards internal sound output.

Anyone had this kind of issues?

You should be able to right click on the audio files in your project bin, select modify audio channels. Take a look at that and let me know if that helps. Your sound designer might have had them set to multi-channels or something your audio card doesn’t handle.

When you have two identical channels of audio that sound fine on their own but very muffled or gone when heard together, it tells you that somewhere along the line one of the channels got inverted. In other words its waveform is upside-down and when summed with a non-inverted channel, the two cancel each other out. The fix is to add the Invert effect on one of the channels.

This actually seemed to be a platform specific issue. When I transfered the same project to my Macbook Pro there was no issue with the audio panning. All was well when the panning was set to middle. Even more strange..
