  • audio output through AJA IoLA using FCP

I have just started using FCP and am having trouble monitoring audio during playback of clips in an existing timeline. I am using an AJA IoLA as my D/A interface and everything works perfectly except for audio playback. I have my video monitor and my speakers coming directly out of the AJA. Video works fine all of the time. Audio works while capturing but not once it is captured.

I have read the instructions many times but it does not seem to address this issue. Oddly if I choose “external video-still frames” I can hear the audio but only get a still frame of video. This is not helpful. If I choose “external video-all frames” I get moving video but no audio. Again, not helpful.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check in FCP in the FCP menu>Audio/Video Settings>A/V Devices tab>Audio set to ProIO Out. Also check the View menu>Audio Playback>Audio Follows Video and also in View>External Video>All Frames is checked. Hope this helps.

The oddest thing happened. Everything was working except timeline playback. Even the comptuer alarms were working through the amplified speakers.

Then I went into the capture mode, clicked preview in the audio settings and when i closed out of capture everything was working including timeline playback. It has to be a glitch in either the AJA or FCP.

But… it’s working. Thanks for all of the help.

When weird things start happening it’s a sign to repair permissions and trash preferences. If you don’t know how to do that, search the FCP forum for either and you’ll quickly find lots of info. Also, look for reference to a program called FCP Rescue that stores good prefs and trashes bad.
