Audio output disappears! OS 10.5.8
Hardware: Power PC G4 (laptop) 1.67 GHZ 1Gb DDR SDRAM
OS: Mac OS 10.5.8
Quicktime: 7.6.4 PROA friend is running the system above on his laptop, which originally came with a lower OS version. What is happening is that often the audio output “disappears”, so when you try to raise or lower the volume via keyboard, there is a “prohibited” sign and you cannot hear any audio or adjust volume. The System Preferences – Audio window tells me there is no audio output device, not even the internal speakers!
Could this be due to a generational gap between the hardware (G4, etc) and the OS and Quicktime version installed after purchasing the used computer? Should I try to re-install Tiger or even Panther (the system it came with, I believe) and/or a lesser version of QT? This would imply possibly shifting down to an older version of FCP (currently 6.0.5), which is not a great piece of news, but…Any info much appreciated!
