Audio only..please help
when i render a video to avi or any other format the audio only plays…whenever i preview videos in sony vegas it plays only the videos in project media but when i drag the video into the timeline the audio only plays..thanks for your help.

i’ve installed DV codecs pack suggested by gspot and it didn’t solve the problem.

does sony vegas support any video codecs???i’m sitting here in front of my pc for ten hours trying to find a solution!!!please help me…

Where did you get the source footage from?
What codec does the source footage on the timline use?
Does it playback on the timeline?
What codec are you trying to render to?

Vegas supports a lot of different video codecs.
We need to go back to square one here and do some troubleshooting.You originally said when i render a video to avi or any other format the audio only plays.
Were you rendering to DV-AVI?
If not, what format was it?
What player were you using to play them back on?
I render DV-AVIs out of Vegas all the time and have no problems playing them with Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic and even QuickTime.…when i drag the video into the timeline the audio only plays…
This tells me that you’re rendering to an oddball format.

It’s always better to search for the one specific codec you do need as, with a codec pack, you can often get a lot of useless stuff installed along with the one codec you do need.

from a sony dvd handycam…mpeg2 codec..it doesn’t playback on the timeline but it plays in the trimmer…i’m trying to render to avi..thanks for your response

From the Vegas Pro 8.0C Readme:
When the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window is selected, video that you preview from the Vegas Explorer and Media Manager windows is played back in the Trimmer. Because the Trimmer is placed in the same window dock as the Explorer and Media Manager, you will not see your video preview. To preview Explorer and Media Manager video, you can drag the Trimmer to a new dock group, or you can turn off the Show Video Monitor button to preview in the Video Preview window.

this may seem to be a very stupid question but how can i drag the trimmer to a new dock group?

How did you import it? You should have used File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc…. That should bring the footage in so that Vegas can edit and play it correctly.

It will never render properly unless it plays back on the timeline. You need to solve this problem first.

Use option 2 instead which is turn off the Show Video Monitor button.
