Install whatever codec is required for those AVI files. Where did those AVI files come from?

For example, many still cameras will take an AVI file. However, most of them require an MJPEG codec in order to see the video.

    thanks for your reply
It isn’t codec issue as the files play in either windows media player realplayer or winamp.
They are older files I can work around by converting them to either wmv or divx or mpeg.
They will then import into the video and audio timelines then.

Yes it IS a codec issue. In the case I mentioned, those files will ALSO play in WMP but will not appear in Vegas until the MJPEG codec is installed. Use gSpot to figure out what the codec required really is and then install that codec.
