  • Audio not synchro when capture HDV

Hi everyone….I had the same problem with CS4, I tough it will be fixed with CS5, but no…

When I capture in HDV, the sound and image are not synchro at all. I also have the message that some red images were inserted.

I don’t understand, cause if I play the file in, for example, windows media player, there is no problem! Also if I import the file in another editing software, no problem too…

    What’s my prblem?

The red images indicate frames have been lost/dropped on capture, which will cause audio sync issues as well. Make sure you have no anti-virus apps running, your capture drive is less than half full (and not your system drive) and defragmented and dont use the computer for anything else while capturing.

    Hi Mike,

I have tried to capture on several drives, it does not change anything. The missing images are only in Adobe PremierePro cause if I play the captured file in another player, there are no red images ( I can clearly see the red images in premiere, but not at all in windows media player )The problem is in premiere…

The red images are put there by Premiere as placeholders for the missing frames. This video played in Media Player wont show red images, but if you look closely, you may or not see a small studder.

If red images are placeholders, why is the sound not synchronized? And there are no problem at all when I capture the same tape with another editing system.

I really need to fix that problem….

It is likely your system has an issue preventing complete capture. I think the placeholder does not represent all the frames dropped. HDV is Mpeg which does not have frames but GOPs which contain a number of frames.

After weeks of pulling my hair, I have finally found a solution! The problem isn’t my system: it’s a monster. And it seems that a lot of people using the same camera than me (SonyFX7) have the same problem.

My solution does not fix the problem in PPro, but it allows me to use my HV footage in PPro. Just download a program called HDV Split and use it to capture footage from camera. After, just import the files in PPro and that’s about it! PLus: you can set the program to automatically detect scenes and it creates a new file for every scene adding a number after the title.

    Thanks everyone for your help!
