Experienced “Apple Color” colorist going through the manual and learning DaVinci (LITE) from scratch….

Trying to import an audio reference file – following instructions in manual ….. but nothing seems to happen….any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? It’s probably something obvious….

Also….when you import a FCP XML but the media has comes from more than one volume, how to you select multiple storage volumes?

Thx from a total bumbling noob….

Have you enabled the audio in the context menu of the conform page? Remember the audio comes out of the Decklink card along with the video feed. No audio if you are not using the Decklink card.

You can add the media manually in the media pool, and choose to not import the clips automatically when loading the XML. Alternatively, you can make a folder with soft links to all the sources where you are going to load the files from. (Path Finder supports this if you are not comfortable with doing this on the Terminal using ln -s)

Don’t have the decklink card at the moment so I guess that explains why I can’t hear the audio….but I also can’t see the waveform when I right click…..no option to even do that…..but yes….audio is “enabled” in the audio options contextual dialog box…..

So if I don’t automatically link to my media on xml import, if I just add those volumes to the pool afterwards will the system automatically link it all up for me?

You don’t add the entire volume, just the folder which contains the files. It will conform the timeline based on timecode/reel number match.

So not by the metadata in the XML that contains the file locations?……

This seems annoying….I guess I’ll have to learn about these “soft paths” – I usually work with projects containing media spread over several folders on multiple volumes on a fibre / SAN system.
