I am really looking for some indepth advice here, all the way from connectors to suggestions on equipment. I am currently running from my Decklink HD Pro PCIe SPDIF connection to my tannoy L and then to my right. Then using the built in mixer in FCP to adjust audio levels for monitoring. Is there a mixer that I can run my SPDIF cable to then possibly split out to XLR for my Tannoy’s that would allow me to adjust levels on the fly for monitoring? Thoughts, diagrams, links?

Thanks so much in advance, Cannon454

After much struggling with this over a year ago, I found that the best solution is the Tascam TM-D1000 digital mixer, which is no longer made, but there always seem to be some on eBay for $350-450. Make sure you get one that has the upgrade card that provides extrad SPDIF I/O

First off… I swear to god I used the search tool before posting this, however, I must not have had a peramiters wide enough. However, I am worried about the size. Is there something out there that is a little smaller?

    Thanks
    Cannon.

It fits nicely on a rack, if that’s the issue. You need to get the rack ears for that too.

I am not looking for something rack mounted. I am really thinking simple. Almost a digital volume controller for my out going SPDIF cable. Has anyone thought about or used this…

Adam- Thanks for your imput but I really think that it’s overkill for my needs right now.

    Thanks

After futher review I believe this is still not what I need. I believe the m-box units will not work as a stand alone. All I need at it’s very core right now is a two channel volume nob that accepts SPDIF, won’t have sync issues and will maintain accuracy.

    Thoughts?

try the behringer ultramatch 2496 convertor and a small mixer ( minimon800 ) for level control.
also check out the new behringer MS20 and MS40 active speakers: they have besides analog input also sp/dif digital inputs.
another solution are the edifier S2.1d version active speakers : https://www.edifier.ca/products/s2141/s21d.html . They sound very good for their price and there is a remote control, but they dont have headphone outputs and even though they also have analog inputs, these dont work together with the digital input.

I am starting to settle on a Behring SRC2496 (thanks for the suggestion), I don’t own a rack so this is going to have to be hidden or set on the desktop. Fore the mixer I am thinking some version of the Behringer EURORACK.
