I am editing videos with my MacBook Pro, using FCP and sometimes Premier. I have a usb from the computer to a Fios DAC and then to powered Mackie speakers. Instead of the Fios, should I consider using a Mackie Pro8 mixer to have more control over my sound monitoring? Is there something else that I need or should consider? Sorry for my ignorance on mixers. Thank you for your time.

what more control do you need?
the DAC has a volume control, i believe.

what i find useful is a small Behringer mixer.
separate volume control for the powered speakers, and my headphones.
